Platform leads to Josh Donaldson Jersey performance

Every young player needs that first opportunity

Marco from Garden City, KS

I may be too late but it’s worth a shot. Back when Vic started this column was when I got a job as a parts man at a truck shop. Needless to say the computer quickly had the Packers site added to the favorites tab. I appreciate what you
Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 20 Josh Donaldson Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey Cheap taught us about football and more importantly life. I wish you the best in your new journey. Farewell, Vic.
Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays AlternateRoyal Blue Jersey.

You’re too late, but Vic said he’ll keep reading so here’s hoping he’ll get a peek at this.

Brian from Mather, CA

Mike and Wes, I have no doubt that Vic has left us in very capable hands to cover the exciting season ahead…and hopefully many more. I have no idea where you guys find the energy to keep up with all you do, but I can only imagine it helps to really love what you do (as did Vic). Here’s hoping for a great season for you guys as well as our Pack!

The coffee is brewing. The 2017 season is almost here. It’s a new day. Let’s get started.

Ron from Waukesha, WI

I’m liking how Ted Thompson has rebuilt our defensive line. It starts with Daniels, then add two ascending second-year players in Clark and Lowry, then sign a solid free agent in Francois and finish it with Adams, a third-round draft pick. The arrow is pointing straight up. Should we then expect to see more three-man fronts this year versus the two-man fronts we saw so much of last year?
Youth Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey.

I don’t know whether the depth on the defensive line is going to result in more three-man fronts. It’s certainly a possibility. What they are in position to do is have more natural defensive linemen on the field in nickel and dime situations. Dom Capers and Mike Trgovac have a lot of combinations to work with.

Greg from Perkasie, PA

I heard Rodgers, and now Mike, mention home-field advantage for the playoffs as being a critical factor in getting back to the Super Bowl. I understand teams don’t like to play up north in the winter, but it sounds like too much of an excuse to me. Bostick didn’t muff the onside kick because that game was in Seattle, and the Packers didn’t get blown out because the game was in Atlanta. It shouldn’t
Women’s Toronto Blue Jays Josh Donaldson Majestic White Flex Base 40th Anniversary Patch Jersey matter where the game is, just win it.

It’s about putting yourself in the best position possible. There’s a big advantage playing in front of your home crowd and not traveling the day before a game. Plus, do you remember what happened before the NFC title game? Fog forced the team to fly out of Milwaukee. The team didn’t arrive at the hotel until like 10 p.m. Was that why the Packers lost the game? No, but there’s a big difference between traveling the day before a game and being at home.

Alex from Indianapolis, IN

Who is the biggest guy, the strongest guy and the fastest guy on Green Bay’s 2017 roster currently?

Martellus Bennett is the tallest, Lane Taylor is listed as the heaviest, Corey Linsley might be the strongest and Trevor Davis probably is the fastest.

Monty from Hazen, ND

Hey guys, less than two weeks until camp starts and wondering what roster battles you are watching closest. I am looking forward to seeing who wins the starting guard spot. Not a sexy spot, but probably the most important.

Jahri Evans appears to be the leader in the clubhouse based on his experience and how well he performed for the Saints last season. The question is who will emerge as that “next man up” inside now that Lane Taylor is a starter. Don Barclay, Kyle Murphy, Kofi Amichia and Lucas Patrick are all in the running.

Ken from Wolcott, CT

I’m hoping the Packers are not thinking about using Jason Spriggs as a starter. I just don’t see him getting that much better than how he was a year ago. I’m sorry, but every time he came in Aaron got hit from that side and he cannot run block also. My question is are we all set with our O-line without him as a starter? Please get back. Thank you.

I’d caution against drawing any conclusions about Spriggs or any other rookie from one season. It took T.J. Lang and Lane Taylor a few seasons before they became bona-fide starters. In Spriggs’ case, he was playing out of position at guard. The Packers are in a good spot with Bryan Bulaga and David Bakhtiari at tackle, but they’re high on Spriggs’ potential. It’s only the beginning.

Norm from Dalton, WI

What are your thoughts on Thursday Night Football? I personally could live without it.

Player safety is No. 1 in my book. I grimace listening to guys talk about the difficulties of getting their bodies right on short rest. At the same time, I’d be lying to you if I told you I didn’t watch it. I see both sides of the argument.

Richard from Santa Ana, CA

Do you think we have enough depth at OLB to withstand an injury to either Perry or Matthews?

Yes. You know why? Because last year at this time everyone was asking if the Packers had enough depth at receiver. Jordy Nelson bounced back in a big way, Davante Adams had a career year and Geronimo Allison made some big plays down the stretch. A few years ago, there was concern about the defensive line and then Mike Daniels developed into an every-down threat. Every young player needs that first opportunity. Kyler Fackrell, Jayrone Elliott, Vince Biegel and Reggie Gilbert are no different. Platform leads to performance.

Lawrence from Onalaska, WI

Randall Cobb was deservingly inducted into the University of Kentucky Hall of Fame. What he did for the football program was incredible. Unfortunately, John Wall was also inducted, and he was just a one-year mercenary for the basketball team. Do you have an opinion on college athletes being honored for just one year of performance? To me, it just doesn’t seem right at all.

I’m not a huge fan of the one-and-done rule, but you can’t dismiss what Wall accomplished at UK. Both he and Cobb left a mark on the Kentucky athletic program in their own way.

Adam from Racine, WI

Is it me, or Josh Donaldson Jersey For Sale does this dead zone seem worse than ones in years past? There seems to be a lack of controversy right now. No deflate-gate, Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, or Aaron Hernandez to report on…all we’re getting from most outlets are top 10 something-or-others. Thanks for providing original content with the position summaries.

It’s actually a positive to not have Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey an overabundance of offseason controversy, but that doesn’t make for good headlines Kevin Pillar Jersey. I think it’s more insightful to set the table for the upcoming season rather than creating subjective lists.

Travis from Houston, TX

This past Sunday, I watched “Game of Thrones” on the HBO Now app. It was affordable and super easy to use. How much longer before there is an NFL Now app that lets you stream games? I know the current broadcasting rights are lucrative for the NFL, but the networks wouldn’t agree to them if they weren’t making their money back. Why doesn’t the NFL cut out the middleman? If the league is concerned about viewership, they shouldn’t make it so incredibly difficult/expensive for someone outside of Wisconsin to watch the Packers.

I know it might sound silly, but this is why a lot of sports organizations have looked at the model the WWE developed to create its own network to stream pay per views. I can’t predict the future and I’m not smart enough to tell you all the ins and outs of TV contracts. However, they’re paying attention to your issue. I assure you they’re listening.

Todd from Shawano, WI

Since it’s the “offseason,” have either of you headed up to the Shawano speedway to watch Joe Reuter race his Late Model on a Saturday night?

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to see a race this summer. Reuter Racing is on the rise. I need to get there while there’s still room on the bandwagon.

Brett from Merrill, WI

Is there one position that seems to get injured more than others in the NFL? I would guess lineman or running back. Thanks for whatever info you can Josh Donaldson Womens Jersey provide.

I don’t have numbers on which positions tend to get more banged up than others, but your guesses are valid. Linebackers and running backs see contact. I think safety is a tough spot to play, as well. It’s so important to protect yourself on the back end.

Darin from Madisonville, KY

Spoff’s answer about press box seating got me thinking; what some of the pros/cons of your job that the average person wouldn’t think about? I have Josh Donaldson Jersey to admit I had never thought about looking forward to going to certain stadiums because of the seating/amenities.

I’m not really looking forward to going back to Washington. You’re pinched in the end zone with a narrow view of the field. Buffalo is also tough since you have to walk out of the stadium to get to the locker room. The biggest headache forever will be Candlestick. The press box didn’t connect to the rest of the building, so you had to go down the stands with the exiting fans to get to the locker room. We’re spoiled at Lambeau.

Jacob from Decorah, IA

Wes, I think the Inbox has created a nice meme with the Ty Montgomery number saga. Well done to you, sir. Unfortunately it won’t last much longer since he should be picking his new number soon, right?

The only thing better than these recurring comments are the growing number of people writing into the Inbox asking why they’re being asked. This thing has taken on a life of its own.

Lucas from Stevens Point, WI

I see the Raiders have picked up John Crockett. I wish him best of luck. To me, he always ran “angry,” which is one of my favorite terms to describe running backs/styles.

I always enjoyed talking with Crockett, who suffered an ill-timed injury at the end of camp last year. It’s a great opportunity for him in Oakland. I wish him well.

Jeff from South Bend, IN

So, how hard do you think Rodgers could throw a dodgeball anyway?

I don’t want to find out. I’m terrible at dodging wrenches.

Dean from Leavenworth, IN

Wes, what’s more impressive, Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles, Rafa Nadal’s 10 French Opens, or Brady’s five rings?

Brady.

Lori from Brookfield, WI

Wes, did you weave a gender reveal for your baby into last week’s Q&A? First, there was the subtitle, “Are you ready for the suspense?” Then, to give us a hint about the real meaning of the subtitle, there was a picture of a lot of people wearing green and gold hats. A pink hat and a blue hat stood out among the hat crowd. Boy or girl? Finally, you wrote about hoping to be a good sport at Junior’s Pop Warner football game someday. A boy! Congratulations. Cleverly done.

We try. I now have five months to sell my wife on “Easton” for his first name.

Rob from Louisville, CO

Mike and Wes, with Vic I could always tell when he was writing the column, but I can’t tell you guys apart. Do you have your own trademark styles, or is it like Bucky Badger, where you’re not supposed to know who’s in the suit?

I’m the long-winded one.

Pat from Marquette, MI

There used to be “Ask Vic” days. Will there be an “Insiders Day” event?

Do you really want to spend a day with me? What would we do? Go to a movie?

Blaine from Bagley, WI

Wes, what did you think of the “Game of Thrones” premiere?

Great. It was the best premiere since Season 2.

Greg from Columbus, MT

“Love is the answer. With love, there are no wars. With love, there are no poor. Commit your life to love, and then, on Sundays in the fall, take a three-hour break to hate.” That is one of my all-time favorite quotes. Not just a favorite Vic quote or football quote. Do you have an all-time favorite quote?

We can’t run from who we are. Our destiny chooses us. RIP Martin Landau (Abe Petrovsky).

HAVE A QUESTION?

Countdown to Camp: Nick Perry ready for Customized Kansas City Chiefs Jersey encore

With Clay Matthews, veteran bookends guide Packers’ outside rush into 2017

This is the sixth in a series of stories that’s examining the Packers’ roster, position by position, leading up to training camp. The series continues with the linebackers.

GREEN BAY – As frustrating as the setbacks have been, Nick Perry remained ever-confident in what he could do on the football field when healthy.

It showed in 2016.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound linebacker enjoyed the first offseason program of his five-year NFL career last summer, the first step in what turned out to be a breakthrough season for Customized Miami Dolphins Jersey the former first-round pick.

While a broken hand forced him to sit out two games in December, Perry still established career highs in tackles (52) and sacks (11) in 14 regular-season games with 12 starts.

The Packers quickly identified the 27-year-old pass-rusher as a priority in free agency, re-signing Perry to a long-term contract shortly Custom Jaguars Jersey after the negotiating period began in March.

The defense will be counting on Perry, six-time Pro Bowler Clay Matthews and a blend of young linebackers to help fill the void of 15-year veteran Julius Peppers, who returned to Carolina after three seasons with the Packers.

Despite having to wear a club, Perry was still effective late in the season. He added three sacks in the Packers’ final two regular-season games and another against Dallas in the NFC Divisional playoff, pushing his postseason sack total to seven in five games, third-best in franchise history.

Matthews, back at his natural outside position, got off to a strong start in 2016 with sacks in each of his first three games. However, the momentum was stymied by a nagging hamstring injury that forced him to miss four contests.

Two weeks after his return to the field, Matthews then suffered a shoulder injury on a blind-side block from former teammate Allen Barbre in the Packers’ Week 12 win over Philadelphia.

Matthews didn’t miss any games but was limited to mostly rushing on third down over the next four weeks. He returned to a more consistent role in late December, recording a pair of sacks and forced fumbles during the final month of the season.

Once Custom Dolphins Jersey camp begins at the end of the month, 2016 third-round pick Kyler Fackrell, fourth-year veteran Jayrone Elliott and Wisconsin Rapids native Vince Biegel will be competing to carve out spots in the rotation behind Matthews and Perry.

Fackrell added more weight to his 6-foot-5 frame in preparation for Year 2, while Elliott focused on conditioning and consistency after re-signing with the Packers in March. Biegel participated in rookie orientation but then missed all of OTAs due to foot surgery.

Former Arizona standout Reggie Gilbert leads a hungry Custom Kansas City Chiefs Jersey contingent of undrafted rushers. A converted 4-3 defensive end, Gilbert spent his entire rookie season learning his new position on the practice squad.

Joining Gilbert in the race for roster spots are rookie free agents Johnathan Calvin and Josh Letuilgasenoa, whom the Packers signed after a successful tryout at rookie orientation.

In the middle of the defense, the Packers return all four veteran inside linebackers who finished last year on the active roster, plus hybrid safety Morgan Burnett, who played extensively near the line of scrimmage throughout last season.

While Jake Ryan paced the group with 82 tackles, Joe Thomas wound up playing more snaps than any other Packers’ linebacker, a big jump after the former undrafted free agent played almost exclusively in the dime defense in 2015.

Competing with Ryan and Thomas for playing time will be 2016 fourth-round pick Blake Martinez and veteran Jordan Tripp, who joined the Packers last December and spent his first full offseason in Green Bay.

In addition to the returning inside linebackers, Burnett and rookie second-round pick Josh Jones likely will see some action in a hybrid capacity throughout training camp.

Behind the four returning inside linebackers are practice-squad holdover Derrick Mathews, Grand Valley State rookie David Talley and Cody Heiman, who played both linebacker and running back during his four years at Division II Washburn.

Life has its tradeoffs Toronto Blue Jays Russell Martin Jersey Sale

A lot of development to watch at wide receiver

Stephen from Chicago, IL

Insiders, Alex Honnold recently climbed El Capitan (a 3,000-foot climb) in four hours…with NO ROPE! I can’t think of a better speaker for a team to listen to on the importance of preparation and doing EVERYTHING right the first time. That said, what is the most unusual Jose Bautista Jersey, non-football speaker, you’ve ever heard a coach bringing in to talk to his or her team?

Two years ago during training camp, McCarthy had Erik Weihenmeyer – the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest – speak to the team. I wish I’d gotten to hear that speech.

Josh from Oshkosh, WI

Seth from Stevens Point, WI, must not realize how healthy the Packers were at the end of 2014.

They were as healthy as could be, except for the QB’s calf. As others have pointed out, the Packers weren’t exactly healthy in 2010, either, but they were healthy at the right time.

Monty from Hazen, ND

For the most part, All-Pro kickers and punters play in warm-weather or domed stadiums. I think it’s time to give Kevin Pillar Jersey the props he deserves. Shouldn’t he be considered as one of the great kickers in the game?

I think he is, even though he doesn’t have the Pro Bowl selections on his resume. Your question prompted me to look into why he’s never been chosen, and I realized how tough a nut it can be to crack. Only two make it, first of all, and Crosby’s best chance, statistically, was in the 2013 season when he came back strong from his rough year. He was 33-of-37 (89.2 percent), including a perfect 22-of-22 from under 40 yards and a career-high five makes (out of seven) from 50-plus. The picks that year were Baltimore’s Tucker (38/41, 92.7, incl. 6/7 50-plus) and Denver’s Prater (25/26, 96.2, 6/7 50-plus). With Prater in the Super Bowl, New England’s Gostkowski was the alternate (38/41, 92.7, 5/6 50-plus). Not an easy crowd. But it’s all good, because if Tucker doesn’t make the 61-yarder on Monday night at Ford Field in the last minute to beat the Lions in Week 15, the Packers probably don’t make the playoffs. Life has its tradeoffs.

Bill from Oskaloosa, IA

Mike, that was hilarious how you spotted the judge looking at the back of the dictionary. Kind of like Aaron looking at the defense pre-snap. You missed your calling!

My football mind could not, would not, will not, cannot, won’t not ever compare to Aaron’s.

Matt from East Lansing, MI

Mike, as for future Hall of Fame QB/RB combos, the first that came to my mind was Favre/Peterson. I really feel like Minnesota had the strong defense and QB/RB combo of the 21st century to take them the distance in 2009, but I cannot say I lost sleep over what happened to them in New Orleans that year.

I didn’t consider that one because they were together only two years, and Peterson is not in the HOF yet (though he obviously will be). That game against the Saints depicted so much about Favre’s career on both sides of the coin, and Peterson’s fumbles that day were a huge problem. If he ever gets another shot at a Super Bowl, he will have a ton of personal redemption on the line.

Mark from Bettendorf, IA

Guys, speaking of flex scheduling and Monday Night Football ratings, will the day ever come where Monday Night Football will get to flex their games?

I don’t see how the NFL could change the day of a game on 12 days’ notice like that. What the league does to ticketholders with the Sunday flexing is inconvenient enough.

Steve from Broadstairs, England

How many prime-time games have the Packers been given for this upcoming season?

Five, as of now. Same as last year, and it went to six when Week 17 was flexed. This year, I see three potentially “flex-able” noon games in December depending on the NFC playoff picture, but we’re a long way from that. For those wondering, to my recollection, the Packers have been flexed out of a scheduled Sunday night game only once, in 2013 when Rodgers was injured.

Del from Sterling, IL

What do you think about Cutler moving to the broadcast Russell Martin Jersey booth?

I hope he doesn’t lose his unfiltered honesty.

Tim from La Crosse, WI

Back in July they were talking about Golden State vs. the Cavs in a rematch and in the playoffs there was little resistance for each of them to meet each other for a third straight time. The lack of parity can’t be good for the NBA. Do you think the parity in the NFL is one of the main reasons why the NFL continues to be the most popular sport?

It’s one of them. One game a week to gear up for and the fantasy football craze, along with a healthy dose of competitive balance, are key elements.

Braden from Brookfield, WI

Let me ask you something, how ‘bout them Brewers?

Would have been nice to see them finish off that ninth-inning comeback yesterday, but they’re hanging in there.

Jeff from Albuquerque, NM

I’m loving “The Rock Report.” I want more. Any way you guys could double the length?

That’s up to Larry, but anyone in a hurry who wants a two-minute Packers fix, you can’t beat it. He and his crew have produced a half dozen in the last two weeks. They’re gold.

Zach from Honolulu, HI

Guys, with all the talk about football movies I’m surprised “Friday Night Lights” doesn’t get more mention. I’ve always considered it one of the better football movies ever made precisely because it has genuine drama, a star athlete breaking down crying after an injury ends his career, and the human confrontation of that final drive which just fell short.

The book that started it all – the movie, the TV show – was a gem.

Wesley from York, UK

I think the tanking “problem” is solved already, by the salary cap floor, 89 percent. However this is over four years. Maybe it could be tightened up, if there is strong evidence of teams tanking. The main issue is where do you draw the line between willfully losing games for draft picks, and cutting guys on high salaries to rebuild your roster?

Exactly. That’s why I think any potential league intervention would be prompted by how things play out on Sundays, not in offseasons in front offices.

Daniel from Albuquerque, NM

Insiders, any idea when training camp opens and what days will be open to the public? My family and I are coming to Wisconsin this summer and want to visit Lambeau. Lining that up with an open training camp practice would be great.

Players will report for camp July 26, with the first practice slated for the next day. That, and Family Night, are the only things announced so far, but we should get the full camp schedule soon. Most practices in camp are open. Generally speaking, the only ones that aren’t are the day before preseason games.

Babarinde from La Habra, CA

Do you believe Ty Montgomery is really a full-time running back or do you think Mike McCarthy is planning on using Custom Blue Jays Jersey Ty’s ability to motion out and play wide receiver as a tool in this offense?

Both.

Mike from Beloit, WI

Hey, Mike! Brandon from Appleton had a question yesterday in regard to Holmgren leaving. I’ve always wondered about that split. Do you believe if Holmgren knew that Wolf was thinking retirement he would have stayed and filled both positions? Conversely, if Wolf had known of Holmgren’s intention to leave would he have retained Andy Reid? I guess I have always believed both to be true.

I’m not sure what Wolf’s thoughts were on Reid at the time, but regarding Holmgren, I don’t think Wolf had any thoughts of retiring in a couple of years after Holmgren left. So there was nothing for Holmgren to know or discuss.

Sam from Sussex, WI

Does having Martellus Bennett (and company) help the defense prepare to defend the middle when it comes to game day? I like the idea of both sides of the ball improving because of the talent at the tight end position.

It certainly doesn’t hurt.

Lucas from Stevens Point, WI

I’ve had some buddies, as well as seeing a few podcasts, saying the Packers should pick up Maclin. While he’s super quick, and they argue he could be our field-stretcher, I really don’t like the idea. I’m expecting Geronimo to make a jump, and while he doesn’t seem to be super-fast, he’s a glider just like A.J. Green, whose long strides beat DBs.

Let’s not start comparing Allison to one of the game’s best, but I’m with you on seeing what develops in the young guys you have, barring a rash of injuries. I’m not sure there’s room on the roster for all the investments the Packers have made at receiver the last two years – Allison, Davis, Dupre, Yancey – but you’re not going Troy Tulowitzki Jersey to help their growth by taking their reps away.

Nicholas from Asheville, NC

So, at what point does Kaepernick sign with a team? Does it take a major injury to a playoff team without a capable backup? Or does someone like the Browns wait till they realize they Josh Donaldson Jersey have no QB during the preseason and take a chance on him? Are the terrible teams trying stall in order to sell as many tickets as they can before taking the inevitable PR beating? It’s like Tim Tebow all over again. The man’s become untouchable.

I think your first scenario is the most likely.

Joshua from Mankato, MN

All these stories about being picked last are pathetic. When I was in junior high, we held an annual intra-school track meet. I was a miserable athlete, so I went for broke and tried to lose all three of my events (100-meter dash, long jump, 400-meter relay). I spent weeks recruiting the worst relay team possible. On the day of meet, I lost my solo events with ease. The relay was tighter, but I ran anchor to assure we’d place last, which we did … until the officials announced another team had been disqualified. And so it was, I had tried to fail and failed trying. You don’t know failure until you fail at failing. Also, I once split the seam of my gym shorts doing squats in weights class. The Toronto Blue Jays Jersey Red only saving grace was I’d borrowed another boy’s shorts that day. He had weights class the following period. Tough day for him. Can we be done with the sob stories now? None of you losers loses better than me.

So you’ve got that going for you, which is nice.

Toronto Blue Jays Wholesale jerseys has the ‘instincts’ to play inside Ryan Goins Jersey Red

Highlights from the defensive assistant coaches’ media session

GREEN BAY – The Packers’ defensive assistant coaches met with the media after Wednesday’s minicamp practice. Here are some Jose Bautista Jersey highlights from their comments:

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers

On Damarious Randall’s potential as a “star” slot cornerback:

I think No. 1, you can see with Damarious’ baseball background he has really good ball skills and vision and instincts. He can play the ball. He has the instincts to play the slot position. You can take a guy who has the quickness he has and he’s more involved in the action. He’s worked more in there than he has outside. We like what we’ve seen.

On Josh Jones’ versatility:

I don’t think you can have too many guys like that. You’ve seen what we’ve done with Morgan. It’s been nice because he’s been able to step right in there and watch Morgan. You ask a lot of those guys. Josh has worked two or three spots. We’ll be working our way through that as we go through a preseason schedule.

Associate head coach/linebackers coach Winston Moss

On Jayrone Elliott:

He’s working hard. He’s improved everything. He’s playing run better. He’s getting experience. Nothing more or less than what a guy would normally improve on.

Defensive line coach Mike Trgovac

On coaching Ricky Jean Francois:

He’s very bright and he’s good with the young guys. He’s very component in what he does. He’ll talk things through with Troy Tulowitzki Jersey you when he’s done things in the past. At the end of the day, we’re going to do it Dom’s way and he’s good with that.

On Dean Lowry:

He’s very bright, which is always a plus. He’s a good athlete and he’s long. He’s versatile. He came in here like you’d hope a second-year player would after having a little bit of success. I think he can handle all the mental portions of (moving around the defensive front). He’s very bright that he can handle a lot of things.

On challenge rookies face transition in the NFL:

With my rookies today, I told them you have to be precise on things in this league. Because when you play in college, every now and then you had a fish in front of you. You had a guy who was playing because he played hard. You don’t get any of those Russell Martin Jersey guys (at this level). You very seldom will make a guy whiff in this league. You’re going to be playing against guys who are capable players in the NFL. That’s a big difference to them.

Safeties coach Darren Perry

On Josh Jones Joe Carter Jersey offseason workout:

He’s doing a good job. He has a lot coming at him like any rookie. They’re going to have the moments when they struggle. It takes time. He’s just like all the young guys. They’re handling it.

On Kentrell Brice’s improvement:

I think just communication has picked up. I think he’s a lot more confident and a better feel for what we’re doing. You can see it in his growth. He still has a ways to go. He looks like a different player compared to where he was last year, which was expected. Physically, he’s a little bigger. We used to joke a little bit about his weight, but he was an explosive and powerful.

On how good Ha Ha Clinton-Dix could be:

It’s still early. The one thing I told Ha is I’m not going to coach you like I coached Troy or Nick. You guys all have your own style. Just be a team leader and you’ll develop your own persona. He has some unique ability. I really admire his ability to be a good teammate and his work ethic. To me, that’s how you build championship teams. Ha Ha can be as good as he wants to be.

Cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt

On Kevin King:

He really hasn’t done much. He’s a really smart kid, but he hasn’t done much in practice. He’s polished. They did a really nice Ryan Goins Jersey job with him at Washington. He’s played the position for years. He’s a smart kid. He can bend and get out of breaks.

On Damarious Randall’s skill set for “star” slot:

It’s a lot of what he did in college. He’s comfortable inside. He has good quickness. He has the ability to see and catch the flash of the football. He’s becoming a better communicator on the field. He has the ability to be successful inside there. He is a very explosive player. He’s a player who not only can cover from the slot, but can add something when it comes to the blitz game like Micah (Hyde) did.

On potential of the group:

If we play to our potential, we have a chance to be as good as any group we’ve had here. The ’09 and ’10 group was special. I thought our group in 2014 was really good. Outside of House, his camp has been the best out of everybody. I’ve seen good practices before and good groups. This group here has had those type of practices.

On what he sees in Herb Waters:

When I saws him in rookie camp, I asked for him then. I didn’t get him then. He has the skill set that I like to coach Justin Smoak Jersey. He has long arms. He can bend. He can get out of his hips. One day, they said do you still think he can do it? I guess they asked the kid if he wanted to do it. He wanted to do it and I’m glad he did.

Assistant linebackers coach Scott McCurley

On Joe Thomas’ interception in practice:

Those are going to be the steps. If you want to show up and make an impact and stay on the field, you have to make plays at the end of the day. It’s good to see him make them in practice. It’s been his development in that role and consistently doing those things. Last year, he transitioned into more of a full-time base and nickel linebacker.

On Jordan Tripp:

I just love the veteran aspect he brings to the room. It’s been great to have him in meetings and having him being able to talk about things. I think that really helps the development of the other guys, as well. He’s a really competitive guy on the field, a really vocal guy. He’s done a really good job of communicating and bringing some Darwin Barney Jersey leadership to the group.

I thought it was an excellent idea. To go through and break down your whole season as if we were game-planning against our offense and vice versa. It becomes valuable information where you can see the numbers and personnel groups. We actually spent a couple weeks on it and I thought it was a valuable two weeks. I thought it was excellent.

David Bakhtiari remembers how he started Joe Carter Jersey Blue Jays

“Paying it forward” comes natural to Packers left tackle

GREEN BAY – Before he was a Pro Bowl left tackle or a second-team All-Pro selection, David Bakhtiari was just another Joe Carter Jersey rookie mid-round draft pick looking to make it in the NFL.

It was during his first summer in Green Bay Bakhtiari began learning the ins-and-outs of the Packers’ offensive line, taking backup reps behind starting left tackle Bryan Bulaga.

The opportunity proved priceless after an injury to Bulaga thrust Bakhtiari into a starting role in 2013. Reflecting on what that experience meant to his own development, Bakhtiari fully embraces the role he has on a week such as this.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy dismissed veterans with at least five seasons on their NFL ledger from this week’s minicamp to tailor the final three practices of the 2017 offseason program to the Justin Smoak Jersey younger players on the roster.

Bakhtiari, who’s entering his fifth NFL season, didn’t make the cutoff. While a veteran of 69 career starts at one of the game’s most important positions might seem out of place among dozens of first- and second-year players, Bakhtiari doesn’t mind.

It’s practically become a rite of passage with how many homegrown offensive linemen the Packers have produced and reminiscent of how Bulaga didn’t mind sharing his time and insight when Bakhtiari was a rookie four years ago.

“Paying it forward is big,” Bakhtiari said. “There were older guys helping me when I got in, so it’s only right that I do the same.”

Bakhtiari is coming off a career year in 2016. He started all 19 games (including playoffs) and established himself as one of the league’s top tackles after signing an extension with the team on the eve of the regular season.

Yet, the 6-foot-4, 310-pound left tackle and his position coach James Campen believe the best is yet to come. Based on the strides Bakhtiari made a year ago, Campen has no doubts about how high Troy Tulowitzki Jersey his pupil’s ceiling runs.

“I think he has a lot of room to improvement. It’s easy to say that with a guy with his mindset,” Campen said. “He’s never satisfied. He’s going to continue to get better. He’s only going into his fifth year. He has a lot of playing time. David last year got stronger. He made strides with his physique and his physicality. Looking for him to be more accomplished in the run game this year and take another step in that direction.”

Bakhtiari slowly Ryan Goins Jersey has assumed a more veteran role on the Packers’ offensive line over the past year with the departures of Josh Sitton, T.J. Lang and JC Tretter.

He’s now the one being asked questions inside the meeting room and understandably so. His knowledge bank is vast after learning how to handle the league’s premier pass-rushers on a weekly basis.

Still, he concedes the leadership of the room to Bulaga, now an eight-year veteran coming off arguably his best campaign.

“Bryan’s been the longest-tenured Green Bay Packer and that is his room,” Bakhtiari said. “Bryan’s done a great job in Jose Bautista Jersey the room and his record speaks for itself, what he’s done in the league, and it’s awesome Kevin Pillar Jersey I’ve been there. Because when I was younger, I was looking up to him, too.

“So for us to now help out, we’re some of the older guys, the longer-tenured guys with the Packers, I think it’s huge for the locker room.”

Bakhtiari would love nothing more than a full helping of reps, but he understands the importance of pacing himself in June. The coaching staff has been careful with how many snaps he and starting left guard Lane Taylor have taken.

Bakhtiari has spent just as much time assisting with reserve tackles Jason Spriggs and Kyle Murphy, the Russell Martin Jersey pair of 2016 draft choices who backed up Bakhtiari and Bulaga all of last season.

“Right now, any time I can lend a helping hand, especially with the younger guys, it’s big,” Bakhtiari said. “We’re only as strong as our weakest link. We need to have our young guys coming up big so we can make a strong push, especially in the latter end of the year.”

Although Bakhtiari is looking forward to potentially getting an early release into summer vacation next year, he’s enjoying his final week of the offseason program.

Even if he would’ve been excused this week, Bakhtiari would’ve still been in town anyway since he’s currently moving into a new house.

“I would have to stay here Josh Donaldson Jersey anyways for the whole moving process,” Bakhtiari said. “I’m not too mad about it.”
