Resiliency has defined this team

New weapons should help open up the Packers’ call sheets

Neil from South Range, WI

Ask any coach or player … they are referring to catching the ball at the high point of their jump. It’s about the timing of the leap. This whole discussion on it is so maddening that I am sure that I just took the bait. But you guys seemed so serious.

I just want to mention this topic seriously brought out everybody. Unfortunately, I don’t have much to add other than I’ve always kind of liked the phrase. Moving on.

Tim from Normal, IL

The hybrid role may seem cool on paper, but Morgan Burnett and Josh Jones are giving away 100 pounds to offensive linemen. Won’t they get crushed on running plays?

There’s an obvious disadvantage, but the best safetybackers can close the gap. One reason I felt good about the Packers moving Burnett to the line of scrimmage was how well he defended the run to that point of his career. Burnett mostly was used in only pass situations last year. The key is being able to fill your gap if the offense checks into a run. Burnett does that.

Collin from Mechanicsville, VA

Which three players have to stay healthy and have career years to return the Packers to the promised land? My votes go to Matthews, Clark, Burnett, and
Women’s Toronto Blue Jays Kevin Pillar Majestic Scarlet Fashion Canada Day Red Flex Base Authentic Jersey Cobb.

I have to point out that you asked me for three players and gave me four. A healthy Clay Matthews and Nick Perry on defense, and Randall Cobb on offense and special teams would be huge for the Packers. All three tilt the field. I’m excited to see how Green Bay plans to use Cobb this year with all the new weapons on offense.

Lee from Marshfield, WI

Since the first four games of a season are really about offenses getting into rhythm, in turn defenses don’t truly come around until the fall air takes hold. What can we look for to see improvement Kevin Pillar Jersey For Sale on our defense? I know I am looking for speed and playing smart. What more can we look for?

I think this defense is going to be much more complex and difficult for opponents to prepare for. I like the balance at defensive line, cornerback and safety. Dom Capers can expand his call sheet depending on whom the Packers are playing.

Steve from Flagstaff, AZ

Now that Adams is out for a bit because of the foot injury, who gets his reps? Is it Price or Ringo? Or someone else I forgot to mention? Will the Packers also put Kevin Pillar Jersey Adams on PUP as well with Biegel and Goodson?
Youth Nike Seattle Seahawks NFL Elite Away White Custom Jersey Cheap.

The Packers tend to work their rookies in at a slower pace at the beginning of camp, so it’s not like Adams was taking a lion’s share of the reps to begin with. It is still a chance for Ringo, Price and Izaah Lunsford to get a few more reps in individual and team periods. Adams is not eligible for the PUP list because he practiced during camp for two days.

Richard from Bradenton, FL

We know OL players talk and learn from each other and their coaches, but, do they talk with their DL teammates/coaches about improving skills, etc., and vice-versa? Vic blazed quite a trail, but you guys are blazing an impressive trail also. Thanks for all that you do.

Thank you. We try. The Packers routinely hold “across-the-hall” meetings, where the offensive and defensive coaches and players will get feedback from one another on a variety of things. If you’ve ever watched practice, you’ll also see how often the two positions work with each other.

Trent from Green Bay, WI

In regards to all the “staying healthy” talk, maybe we should be taking a deeper look into players’ conditioning. I rarely, if at all, hear any mention of yoga being a mainstream practice. Being a personal trainer and studying kinesiology for over a decade it seems incredibly beneficial to implement yoga as a regular activity in the NFL. Do you guys hear of or know any Packers that actively do yoga?

There are several Packers who do yoga to help with flexibility and injury prevention, including Mike Daniels and Randall Cobb. I’m no expert, but it seems to go a long way in preventing muscle-related injuries based on the stories I’ve done.

Sean from Portland, ME

Burnett and Clinton-Dix are likely the starting safeties and Jones and Brice could be Nos. 3 and 4 on the depth chart. My question is, is the third guy the first one off the bench regardless? Or does Jones specifically back up Burnett (or Clinton-Dix)?

The Packers cross-train their safeties, so one player has to sub in for another at a specific spot. That being said, Brice has been rotating in when Burnett moves to inside linebacker with Josh Jones backing up Clinton-Dix.

Tom from Chesterfield, VA

Jahri Evans has some serious mileage on him. Do you think it’s likely that we’ll get a full season at RG from him? I remember when we signed center Jeff Saturday under similar circumstances. He just wasn’t up to it.

I don’t see any reason why Evans wouldn’t be up for it. He surprised a lot of people with how well he played for New Orleans last season. Evans is durable and should fit in well, especially in pass protection. As for the comparison, Saturday already was 37 years old in 2012. Evans will play this season at 34.

Taylor from Draper, UT

Lifelong Packer and BYU fan. How has Taysom Hill looked and how close is that third-string battle? Does his injury history scare the coaching staff? Anxious to see Taysom handing the ball off to Jamaal in green and gold this preseason.
Men’s Nike Custom Made St. Louis Rams Elite Navy Blue Team Color Jersey for Sale.

It’s early to give an in-depth report on Hill, but I’ve liked what I’ve seen. He’s athletic and possesses a live arm. It was neat seeing him complete a deep pass to Williams during an individual period on Monday.

Mike Kevin Pillar Jersey from Somerset, WI

I am cautiously optimistic on the impact Josh Jones can have on the 2017 season. After all, he is a rookie. Who was the last defensive rookie on the Packers to make a huge impact on a season?

I guess you’d have to define “huge,” but I thought Ha Ha Clinton-Dix made a very sizable impact during his rookie year. Casey Hayward was a finalist for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 after picking off six passes.

Nicholas from Asheville, NC

In regards to stashing players, the one that I’m suspicious about is injured reserve. How often Personalized Seahawks Jersey are prospects placed on season-ending IR so they don’t factor into the 53, when they’d probably recover in six weeks?

It’s fairly common practice. Teams place injured players on IR at the end of the preseason until they can work out an injury settlement with the player.

Lori from Brookfield, WI

How is Justin Vogel doing with his punting opportunities so far?

He has a nice leg. Spoff made a pretty astute observation Monday. If you give him time, Vogel can punt the ball a country mile. All of his mishits tend to come when protection breaks down. He’s making the most out of taking all the reps, though.

George from Hutchinson, MN

The Seahawks are tough and resilient. The Falcons are fast and explosive. The Cowboys are strong and powerful. The Patriots are well-balanced and consistent. Which one of the combined virtues above are the Packers most likely to possess?

It takes time for a team to forge its identity, but resiliency has defined Mike McCarthy’s teams when you look at how the Packers bounced back in 2010, 2013, and the past two seasons. I think resiliency feeds into all the other adjectives you equated to those four teams, especially when it comes to consistency. It doesn’t matter how talented a team is if it can’t rebound from adversity.

Craig from Genoa, IL

What do you think the Packers need to do defensively to get off the field on third down? Seems like the last few years once the opponent starts driving, the Packers have a tough time stopping them until they get a field goal or touchdown; puts a lot of pressure on the offense to be consistently productive.

It’s not just one thing, but it starts up front. The fastest way to pour sand out of the hourglass is to put pressure on the quarterback.

Chris from New Canaan, CT

Please get out your Sharpie and circle one game on the schedule. I was tempted to circle SEA Week 1, but that’s emotional, knee-jerk stuff. I’ve got MIN, Week 16 at Lambeau circled up. That’ll be the most important game of the season, in my opinion.

I’m circling the Week 17 game against Detroit. If the past five years have taught us anything, that’s going to be a mighty important game.

Max from Milwaukee, WI

I agree with the Insiders on the importance of home-field advantage. Tom Brady’s Patriots have never made the Super Bowl as a wild card and only twice out of six tries have they made the Super Bowl playing an away game for the AFC championship. The Patriots’ success is in part due to the fact they get home-field advantage and a bye most seasons.

I agree. I’d also argue the Packers’ route to the No. 1 seed has been more complicated due to their division, which is highly underrated. I don’t think the North gets nearly enough respect considering it’s sent seven teams to the postseason as wild cards since 2009. The South is next in the NFC with four. In the same span, the AFC East has had three wild-card playoff teams.

Brad from Mounds View, MN

Insiders, we’ve never got a good answer on why Montgomery was handed the starting running back position, especially when you draft three running backs. In my opinion Montgomery hasn’t proved anything at this point. What are your thoughts?

Did you watch last season? Everything is fluid this time of year, but I think Montgomery did more than enough to be considered the starting running back. Receiver, running back or returner, Montgomery is a dynamic football player.

Joe from Bloomington, IN

To me statistics are nonsense for the two-point conversion. For a single conversion it depends on Personalized Rams Jersey how likely you are to score against that opponent, and for the whole game it depends on how many touchdowns you’re likely to score. A more interesting question is could a team successfully build a roster that would score a lot of touchdowns and make most of the two-point conversions?

Yes…but only if they signed Tebow.

Tony from River Falls, WI

I visited Lambeau this past Friday and it was great to be back in Green Bay! When I was a kid, my grandparents lived half a mile from Lambeau Field. I remember being able to hear the crowd from their house on game days, especially when the Packers scored a touchdown. One of my fondest early Packers memories. What is your favorite football memory when you were a kid?

Christmas games at Lambeau. It doesn’t get any better.

Chris from Eau Claire, WI

Well, guys, football starts THIS Thursday. That is if they can figure out this whole paint thing. My question is, are you ready for some football?

I’ve tried to block that memory from my mind, Chris. Thanks for reminding me. Yes, I’m ready for football.

Doug from Union Grove, WI

Before I ask a question for my 97-year-old mother, who like me, attended the “Ice Bowl,” I’d like to clarify something. Prior to Ty Montgomery wearing No. 88, there were 22 former Packers who wore No. 88, and only one, Eugene White, Custom Rams Jersey was not a receiver. He was a DB in 1954. All the rest were WRs or TEs. As you might guess, she was a fan of big Ron Kramer, also No. 88. Her question, with regards to Ty wearing No. 88 as a RB is, “What’s up with that?”

Is that a direct quote? I sure hope so.

Dan from Norfolk, VA

Just saw “Three Things.” How come Larry and Mike get microphones but Wes doesn’t?

Spoff beat me in an arm-wrestling competition for the mic on Saturday. Fortunately, we switched to shuffleboard Monday and I reclaimed it.

Collin from Omaha, NE

Hey guys, I love the column and how you two have filled in after Vic’s retirement, but it dawned on me that there will soon be a whole generation of readers who don’t know who Vic is and will have no idea what we are talking about when he is brought up.

Then it’s up to Spoff and me to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Camp schedule changing this Personalized Rams Jersey week for Packers

Final morning practice Tuesday, then shift to evening workouts

GREEN BAY — Tuesday marks the final morning practice of the 2017 training Custom Rams Jersey camp, and after a day off from practice Wednesday, the Packers will shift to a nighttime schedule with three straight evening practices, concluding with Family Night on Saturday at Lambeau Field.

While Head Coach Mike McCarthy prefers the morning workouts, to get the “heavy lifting” done early in the day, changing the schedule is intentional with
Women’s Toronto Blue Jays Kevin Pillar Majestic Scarlet Fashion Canada Day Red Flex Base Authentic Jersey how much prime-time action lies ahead in the preseason and regular season.

“We need to work under the lights. We need to have a feel for that time clock, how that day feels,” McCarthy said prior to Tuesday morning’s practice.

Night games require players to spend a lot of time at the team hotel during the day and get mentally and physically prepared to play much later than normal. The upcoming camp schedule will simulate that.

“When we have night practices, those are very long days,” McCarthy said. “Those are the hardest schedules to be on. It’s fun to practice under the lights in front of the fans, it’s a tremendous atmosphere we have here. But that’s a long day. Our football team needs to experience that and feel that. Our team is going to experience that with Sunday and Monday night games Kevin Pillar Jersey.”

After the day off on Sunday, McCarthy felt Monday’s practice was a step in the right direction for the Packers. He felt the quality of practice went up, most likely due to the players getting used to the meeting and film routine, and having the pads Kevin Pillar Jersey For Sale on.

“I’m happy with the step we took yesterday in practice,” McCarthy said. “We need to take it today.”

McCarthy also announced that third-round Custom Seahawks Jersey draft pick Montravius Adams had successful surgery on his foot. He’ll be out “multiple
Men’s Nike Custom Made St. Louis Rams Elite Navy Blue Team Color Jersey for Sale weeks,” but McCarthy said he’s “going to be fine.”

Ty Montgomery putting it all Kevin Pillar Jersey For Sale together this summer

Packers running back put in the work during the offseason to fine-tune his skill set

GREEN BAY – If Aaron Jones didn’t know any better, the rookie running back would’ve guessed Ty Montgomery has lined up in the Packers’ backfield all Kevin Pillar Jersey For Sale along.

“If I came in and nobody would’ve told me he was a receiver before, I would have thought he was a running back the whole time,” said the fifth-round pick Monday. “He has the build, he’s smart, and he knows how to run the ball.”

The reality is a year ago at this time Montgomery was still on the Packers’ physically unable to perform list (PUP), recovering from ankle surgery. His days were spent with the receivers, taking notes on his primary position since high school.

It wasn’t until the start of the regular season Montgomery began transitioning to running back. Initially considered a change-of-pace developmental option, it took a little more than a month for his role to grow exponentially in the offense.

Montgomery became a serious matchup problem for defenses out of the backfield. As time passed, teams started paying more attention to him, deciding Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey how to cover him when he’s in the box and when he motions out wide.

In the end, Montgomery wound up leading the Packers with 457 rushing yards. His 5.9 yards per carry was the highest among all NFL running backs with at least 75 attempts.

Even after the Packers drafted three running backs in May, Head Coach Mike McCarthy still anointed Montgomery as the starter in his first post-draft news conference.

Despite the high praise, Montgomery didn’t get complacent in his offseason workouts. If anything, it only motivated the third-year veteran to train harder and further develop his skills Kevin Pillar Jersey.

“I feel good. I feel solid, a little stronger,” Montgomery said. “I definitely keep my balance more. I think that’s something that just comes from playing at the time that I did, at the end of the season, and then training this offseason.

“Now with the pads coming on, I was definitely excited. I’m just going to continue to get better, I know that for a fact.”

For the first time, Montgomery didn’t concentrate on his weight this offseason. In the past, he tried to stay around 215 pounds to avoid compromising his speed and quickness.

With his focus squarely on developing strength and agility, Montgomery allowed his body to hover closer to his more natural weight of 220, and the benefits of
Men’s Nike Custom Made St. Louis Rams Elite Navy Blue Team Color Jersey for Sale the approach could be seen during the first week of training camp.

The best part is Montgomery doesn’t feel like it zapped him of any explosiveness.

“I’m happy with where my body is,” Montgomery said. “This offseason I wasn’t training to keep my weight down to play the receiver position. I wasn’t thinking, ‘Oh, let me put on 10 more pounds’ or whatever the case was. I wasn’t thinking of putting on weight. I was just not keeping my weight down and just working hard.”

Montgomery didn’t get to this point alone. As has been the case in recent years, he once again trained with former Wisconsin running back and current Los Angeles Charger Melvin Gordon.

It was through his friendship with Gordon that Montgomery was introduced this offseason to seven-time Pro Bowler and former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson, who’s preparing for his 11th NFL season and first with the New Orleans Saints.

“It was a little enlightening,” Montgomery said. “I’ve never met him before, or gotten to see him train. His nickname is ‘All Day’ and I figured out there’s a Custom Rams Jersey reason he’s called ‘All Day.’ It was good. It pushed me. I was glad to be around guys who worked really hard.”

Montgomery understands he’s not a finished product. That’s why he made sure to bounce as many questions as possible off Gordon and Peterson on everything
Youth Nike Seattle Seahawks NFL Elite Away White Custom Jersey Cheap from the small details of the position to pass protection.

After putting in countless hours in the classroom and practice field this summer, Montgomery finally got a chance to put all his research to Personalized Rams Jersey work once the Packers put the pads on for the first time Saturday.

While every day is a learning process, Montgomery has started to feel a difference. His teammates, both at receiver and running back, also can see his offseason work in action.

“He’s a guy who’s going to stay committed to it,” receiver Jordy Nelson said. “He’s going to fine-tune everything. He’s not going to settle for being a third-down back or second-down back. He wants to be out there every down, every play. As he continues to grow, that’s something he’s going to be able to do. What he did last year was unbelievable and to continue it is incredible.”

While considered the leader of the backfield, Montgomery knows he doesn’t have all the answers. He’s still only 24 with less than a year of competitive experience at the position.

He’s still peppering running backs coach Ben Sirmans with questions in meetings. Yet, he also enjoys answering as many as he can for Jones, Jamaal Williams, Devante Mays, and the rest of the Packers’ rookie running backs.

Montgomery sees those conversations as a two-way street. The more he’s asked about, the more it reinforces what he’s learned over the past year.

As the team presses forward in training camp, Montgomery is focused on proving he can be the reliable every-down back the Packers look to feature in this offense.

“I’m anxious and excited to see what God has in store for me. Whatever it is,” Montgomery said. “I have high expectations Personalized Seahawks Jersey for myself, but hopefully I exceed those. I’m excited. This offseason being able to start the season at this position, I think is going to be helpful.”
TRAINING CAMP:
Strength at safety stands out

Strength at safety stands Kevin Pillar Jersey For Sale out early on Packers’ defense

Position group has come a long way in a few short years

GREEN BAY – For the Packers’ safeties, there’s never a dull moment in the meeting room Personalized Rams Jersey, according to veteran leader Morgan Burnett.
Men’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 11 Kevin Pillar Toronto Blue Jays Alternate Royal Blue Jersey. There’s nothing quiet about their play on the field, either.

If there’s a position group getting itself noticed every single day at Ray Nitschke Field thus far in training camp, it’s the safeties.

Pro Bowler Ha Ha Clinton-Dix’s voice is unmistakable, barking out commands, just before he dives across the middle to break up a pass. Burnett and rookie Josh Jones are taking plenty of snaps at inside linebacker in sub-packages. Kentrell Brice is racing up from back deep to fill against the run. Jones and Marwin Evans have intercepted passes.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy called it a safety group as strong as he’s seen in two-plus decades in the NFL. Veteran receiver Jordy Nelson didn’t hesitate in calling it Kevin Pillar Jersey For Sale one of the strengths of the team.

How it all comes together will tell a big chunk of the story of the 2017 Packers Kevin Pillar Jersey defense. The results this fall and winter will provide the more meaningful judgment.

But for now, in the heat of summer, the Packers are excited about the mix of attributes they have at safety and how they can best maximize their impact.

“I think all those guys will have opportunities (to play),” McCarthy said. “That’s the way I anticipate offenses are going to go against our defense, and we’ll be in sub personnel groups a lot of the time.”

The nickel, dime, and all their variations are defining NFL defenses now, which
Women’s Toronto Blue Jays Kevin Pillar Majestic Scarlet Fashion Canada Day Red Flex Base Authentic Jersey has required safeties to expand their skill sets.

Burnett and Clinton-Dix, with a combined 10 NFL seasons to their credit, know the defense well enough to play anywhere. As Brice and Evans get more comfortable in the scheme in their second years, Jones is the new guy getting a lot thrown at him, and responding at every turn.

“That’s the thing about schematics – the coaches put you in a position, and it’s up to you,” said Jones, the second-round pick out of North Carolina State.

“They’re going to hold you accountable to learn the playbook. It’s complex, but once you get it down, it’ll let you do what you do as a football player.”

That’s what Jones continues to call himself, a football player, when asked about the safety/linebacker hybrid position.

Burnett started to take on the duty last year, and McCarthy liked his effectiveness in those packages so much it was no surprise the Packers added another option and invested a high pick in a player like Jones.

It wouldn’t be a shock to see both on the field together as linebackers in certain situations, either, a luxury the Packers can afford with Brice another deep option to pair with Clinton-Dix in the more traditional safety role.

“Everyone brings uniqueness, and it starts with ‘DP,’ Darren Perry,” Burnett said of his longtime position coach. “He allows us to go out there, play ball, and do what we do best. He never over-coaches us. He’s always guiding us. Playing for someone like that makes it fun to come to work.

“We all have to know what each other is doing, because you never know what
Men’s Nike Custom Made St. Louis Rams Elite Navy Blue Team Color Jersey for Sale position you could be plugged in at.”

While Clinton-Dix is a rising star in the league taking on more leadership responsibility – “Anything that goes on in the back end, you can hold me accountable. I’m going to make sure these guys are ready to play,” he said – Burnett is the steady, veteran presence who’s seen it all. His respect throughout the entire locker room ranks as high as any player’s on defense.

Burnett quietly made two impressive plays in Tuesday’s practice, which featured a lot of red-zone work. On one play at the goal line, he read tight end Lance Kendricks leaking out into the end zone as quarterback Brett Hundley carried out an exaggerated play-action fake from a run-heavy look.

With help from linebacker Blake Martinez, Kendricks was never open, and Hundley’s bootleg ended with a throwaway.

Later, Burnett was right in tight end Martellus Bennett’s hip pocket on a crossing route near the goal line and stuck his hand in to knock Kevin Pillar Jersey the ball away.

Flashy plays? No, but they were classic Burnett, who appreciates the challenge of facing an accomplished, “crafty” veteran like Bennett.

“If I go against that every day, you can’t help but get better,” he said.

The Packers have steadily done that at the entire position over the last four years, after the 2013 season exposed a thin group that featured Burnett but otherwise needed an overhaul.

Last year showed the most growth in terms of both playmaking and depth. Clinton-Dix, drafted in the first round in 2014, earned his first Pro Bowl nod. Also, Brice and Evans made the team as undrafted rookies, prompting the since-departed Micah Hyde, a converted cornerback, to go back to his old position more.

Now enter Jones, who by all accounts will be making an impact as a rookie and has been all business since his arrival.

“That’s the NFL, man. You got drafted, it’s time to show up,” Jones said. “There ain’t no redshirt year, like in college. You have to put on your big-boy pads and step up and be a man. This is a job. It’s not school. School’s over with.”

So is the rebuilding of the position. Now it’s time to see what comes to fruition.

McCarthy acknowledged the safeties are playing a key role in how the defense is schemed, while Nelson can see from the other side of the ball the emphasis on taking advantage of their athleticism.

“You can tell what they’re trying to do,” Nelson said. “They’re trying to get them on the field as much as possible. They’re playmakers.”

That’s the plan, anyway.

“Everyone on defense has the ability to bring it,” Brice said. “We’re trying to Custom Seahawks Jersey make that our M.O.”

Platform leads to Josh Donaldson Jersey performance

Every young player needs that first opportunity

Marco from Garden City, KS

I may be too late but it’s worth a shot. Back when Vic started this column was when I got a job as a parts man at a truck shop. Needless to say the computer quickly had the Packers site added to the favorites tab. I appreciate what you

You’re too late, but Vic said he’ll keep reading so here’s hoping he’ll get a peek at this.

Brian from Mather, CA

Mike and Wes, I have no doubt that Vic has left us in very capable hands to cover the exciting season ahead…and hopefully many more. I have no idea where you guys find the energy to keep up with all you do, but I can only imagine it helps to really love what you do (as did Vic). Here’s hoping for a great season for you guys as well as our Pack!

The coffee is brewing. The 2017 season is almost here. It’s a new day. Let’s get started.

Ron from Waukesha, WI

I’m liking how Ted Thompson has rebuilt our defensive line. It starts with Daniels, then add two ascending second-year players in Clark and Lowry, then sign a solid free agent in Francois and finish it with Adams, a third-round draft pick. The arrow is pointing straight up. Should we then expect to see more three-man fronts this year versus the two-man fronts we saw so much of last year?

I don’t know whether the depth on the defensive line is going to result in more three-man fronts. It’s certainly a possibility. What they are in position to do is have more natural defensive linemen on the field in nickel and dime situations. Dom Capers and Mike Trgovac have a lot of combinations to work with.

Greg from Perkasie, PA

I heard Rodgers, and now Mike, mention home-field advantage for the playoffs as being a critical factor in getting back to the Super Bowl. I understand teams don’t like to play up north in the winter, but it sounds like too much of an excuse to me. Bostick didn’t muff the onside kick because that game was in Seattle, and the Packers didn’t get blown out because the game was in Atlanta. It shouldn’t
Women’s Toronto Blue Jays Josh Donaldson Majestic White Flex Base 40th Anniversary Patch Jersey matter where the game is, just win it.

It’s about putting yourself in the best position possible. There’s a big advantage playing in front of your home crowd and not traveling the day before a game. Plus, do you remember what happened before the NFC title game? Fog forced the team to fly out of Milwaukee. The team didn’t arrive at the hotel until like 10 p.m. Was that why the Packers lost the game? No, but there’s a big difference between traveling the day before a game and being at home.

Alex from Indianapolis, IN

Who is the biggest guy, the strongest guy and the fastest guy on Green Bay’s 2017 roster currently?

Martellus Bennett is the tallest, Lane Taylor is listed as the heaviest, Corey Linsley might be the strongest and Trevor Davis probably is the fastest.

Monty from Hazen, ND

Hey guys, less than two weeks until camp starts and wondering what roster battles you are watching closest. I am looking forward to seeing who wins the starting guard spot. Not a sexy spot, but probably the most important.

Jahri Evans appears to be the leader in the clubhouse based on his experience and how well he performed for the Saints last season. The question is who will emerge as that “next man up” inside now that Lane Taylor is a starter. Don Barclay, Kyle Murphy, Kofi Amichia and Lucas Patrick are all in the running.

Ken from Wolcott, CT

I’m hoping the Packers are not thinking about using Jason Spriggs as a starter. I just don’t see him getting that much better than how he was a year ago. I’m sorry, but every time he came in Aaron got hit from that side and he cannot run block also. My question is are we all set with our O-line without him as a starter? Please get back. Thank you.

I’d caution against drawing any conclusions about Spriggs or any other rookie from one season. It took T.J. Lang and Lane Taylor a few seasons before they became bona-fide starters. In Spriggs’ case, he was playing out of position at guard. The Packers are in a good spot with Bryan Bulaga and David Bakhtiari at tackle, but they’re high on Spriggs’ potential. It’s only the beginning.

Norm from Dalton, WI

What are your thoughts on Thursday Night Football? I personally could live without it.

Player safety is No. 1 in my book. I grimace listening to guys talk about the difficulties of getting their bodies right on short rest. At the same time, I’d be lying to you if I told you I didn’t watch it. I see both sides of the argument.

Richard from Santa Ana, CA

Do you think we have enough depth at OLB to withstand an injury to either Perry or Matthews?

Yes. You know why? Because last year at this time everyone was asking if the Packers had enough depth at receiver. Jordy Nelson bounced back in a big way, Davante Adams had a career year and Geronimo Allison made some big plays down the stretch. A few years ago, there was concern about the defensive line and then Mike Daniels developed into an every-down threat. Every young player needs that first opportunity. Kyler Fackrell, Jayrone Elliott, Vince Biegel and Reggie Gilbert are no different. Platform leads to performance.

Lawrence from Onalaska, WI

Randall Cobb was deservingly inducted into the University of Kentucky Hall of Fame. What he did for the football program was incredible. Unfortunately, John Wall was also inducted, and he was just a one-year mercenary for the basketball team. Do you have an opinion on college athletes being honored for just one year of performance? To me, it just doesn’t seem right at all.

I’m not a huge fan of the one-and-done rule, but you can’t dismiss what Wall accomplished at UK. Both he and Cobb left a mark on the Kentucky athletic program in their own way.

Adam from Racine, WI

Is it me, or Josh Donaldson Jersey For Sale does this dead zone seem worse than ones in years past? There seems to be a lack of controversy right now. No deflate-gate, Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, or Aaron Hernandez to report on…all we’re getting from most outlets are top 10 something-or-others. Thanks for providing original content with the position summaries.

It’s actually a positive to not have Kevin Pillar Womens Jersey an overabundance of offseason controversy, but that doesn’t make for good headlines Kevin Pillar Jersey. I think it’s more insightful to set the table for the upcoming season rather than creating subjective lists.

Travis from Houston, TX

This past Sunday, I watched “Game of Thrones” on the HBO Now app. It was affordable and super easy to use. How much longer before there is an NFL Now app that lets you stream games? I know the current broadcasting rights are lucrative for the NFL, but the networks wouldn’t agree to them if they weren’t making their money back. Why doesn’t the NFL cut out the middleman? If the league is concerned about viewership, they shouldn’t make it so incredibly difficult/expensive for someone outside of Wisconsin to watch the Packers.

I know it might sound silly, but this is why a lot of sports organizations have looked at the model the WWE developed to create its own network to stream pay per views. I can’t predict the future and I’m not smart enough to tell you all the ins and outs of TV contracts. However, they’re paying attention to your issue. I assure you they’re listening.

Todd from Shawano, WI

Since it’s the “offseason,” have either of you headed up to the Shawano speedway to watch Joe Reuter race his Late Model on a Saturday night?

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to see a race this summer. Reuter Racing is on the rise. I need to get there while there’s still room on the bandwagon.

Brett from Merrill, WI

Is there one position that seems to get injured more than others in the NFL? I would guess lineman or running back. Thanks for whatever info you can Josh Donaldson Womens Jersey provide.

I don’t have numbers on which positions tend to get more banged up than others, but your guesses are valid. Linebackers and running backs see contact. I think safety is a tough spot to play, as well. It’s so important to protect yourself on the back end.

Darin from Madisonville, KY

Spoff’s answer about press box seating got me thinking; what some of the pros/cons of your job that the average person wouldn’t think about? I have Josh Donaldson Jersey to admit I had never thought about looking forward to going to certain stadiums because of the seating/amenities.

I’m not really looking forward to going back to Washington. You’re pinched in the end zone with a narrow view of the field. Buffalo is also tough since you have to walk out of the stadium to get to the locker room. The biggest headache forever will be Candlestick. The press box didn’t connect to the rest of the building, so you had to go down the stands with the exiting fans to get to the locker room. We’re spoiled at Lambeau.

Jacob from Decorah, IA

Wes, I think the Inbox has created a nice meme with the Ty Montgomery number saga. Well done to you, sir. Unfortunately it won’t last much longer since he should be picking his new number soon, right?

The only thing better than these recurring comments are the growing number of people writing into the Inbox asking why they’re being asked. This thing has taken on a life of its own.

Lucas from Stevens Point, WI

I see the Raiders have picked up John Crockett. I wish him best of luck. To me, he always ran “angry,” which is one of my favorite terms to describe running backs/styles.

I always enjoyed talking with Crockett, who suffered an ill-timed injury at the end of camp last year. It’s a great opportunity for him in Oakland. I wish him well.

Jeff from South Bend, IN

So, how hard do you think Rodgers could throw a dodgeball anyway?

I don’t want to find out. I’m terrible at dodging wrenches.

Dean from Leavenworth, IN

Wes, what’s more impressive, Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles, Rafa Nadal’s 10 French Opens, or Brady’s five rings?

Brady.

Lori from Brookfield, WI

Wes, did you weave a gender reveal for your baby into last week’s Q&A? First, there was the subtitle, “Are you ready for the suspense?” Then, to give us a hint about the real meaning of the subtitle, there was a picture of a lot of people wearing green and gold hats. A pink hat and a blue hat stood out among the hat crowd. Boy or girl? Finally, you wrote about hoping to be a good sport at Junior’s Pop Warner football game someday. A boy! Congratulations. Cleverly done.

We try. I now have five months to sell my wife on “Easton” for his first name.

Rob from Louisville, CO

Mike and Wes, with Vic I could always tell when he was writing the column, but I can’t tell you guys apart. Do you have your own trademark styles, or is it like Bucky Badger, where you’re not supposed to know who’s in the suit?

I’m the long-winded one.

Pat from Marquette, MI

There used to be “Ask Vic” days. Will there be an “Insiders Day” event?

Do you really want to spend a day with me? What would we do? Go to a movie?

Blaine from Bagley, WI

Wes, what did you think of the “Game of Thrones” premiere?

Great. It was the best premiere since Season 2.

Greg from Columbus, MT

“Love is the answer. With love, there are no wars. With love, there are no poor. Commit your life to love, and then, on Sundays in the fall, take a three-hour break to hate.” That is one of my all-time favorite quotes. Not just a favorite Vic quote or football quote. Do you have an all-time favorite quote?

We can’t run from who we are. Our destiny chooses us. RIP Martin Landau (Abe Petrovsky).
